Green Guarantee Group - Unlocking private capital at scale for the green transition in EMDE

16:30 – 18:00 Uhr

There is an urgent need to secure additional, predictable, and adequate financial resources at scale to support the green transition. A large part of existing liquidity in global financial markets could and should be made available to support the green transition. In this context, guarantees are an important, but yet underused tool for mobilising private capital for green investments. The landscape of guarantee instruments and involved actors is fragmented and their role in financing the green transition is still marginal. This is where the Green Guarantee Group (GGG) comes in.
The GGG seeks to address existing gaps in current climate investment flows by focusing on the potential of guarantees. The Group aims to create a more comprehensive understanding of the existing types of mechanisms and how to better leverage them. The GGG recognized that amongst other barriers coordination and standardization are two important factors. This is why the event will gather experts to dive deeper into the potential of aligning forces, while focusing on addressing the challenges and opportunities associated with mobilising finance for the green transition in emerging markets and developing economies (EMDE).
